Police have detained eight persons in connection with the shootout in Asansol on Thursday that left three dead.

Police have detained eight persons in connection with the shootout in Asansol on Thursday that left three dead.

“We have started interrogating some of the locals who are suspects. However,nobody has been arrested as yet. We are investigating several angles,” said Burdwan SP Humayun Kabir.

According to sources,police have received information that supari killers could be involved. “We have got information that supari killers were hired to kill Lakkhan Yadav. They fired 30 rounds,” said a senior police officer.

Lakkhan Yadav was a notorious name among the iron scrap dealers operating in the area and had 10 cases,including for murder,registered against him in the Asansol area,said a police officer. “Recently,he started pumping money into his business. According to preliminary investigation,it appears to be an instance of gang rivalry,” the official added.

The Jharkhand border has been sealed after orders of CM Mamata Banerjee. Police have started conducting raids on the dens of the coal and iron mafia in the area.
