The AMRI management is fearing an exodus of full-time doctors attached to the hospital as well as medical staff because the brand equity of the health institute has taken a beating following the Fridays fire in its Dhakuria hospital.
About 40 nurses mostly from Kerala wanted to resign and leave in the aftermath of the tragedy. However, only after the management gave them assurance that no ones job will be at stake, the staff members withdrew their resignations.
A noted cancer surgeon of the hospital has already resigned and joined another speciality hospital. So has a renowned cardiologist of AMRI Dhakuria, said a hospital official on condition of anonymity.
Fearing an exodus, the management, after the Chief Ministers Mamata Banerjees visit to the hospital on Tuesday, held an emergency meeting on Wednesday and assured every employee that their job is not at stake. However, the staff will have to shift to other centers of the hospital.
The employees will be given options to chose the centers they like or will have to accept what the management offers them. The management also decided to give two months salary and a certificate if any staff member decides to quit.
According to sources in AMRI hospital, around 1,500 employees used to work in the hospital that includes sisters, brothers, attendants, junior doctors, technicians and house staffs. We have given them an option. The employees can join the AMRI Salt Lake and AMRI Mukundapur hospitals in Kolkata. Moreover, the employees can join AMRI branches that are located in other states, said a senior official of AMRI hospital.
At present, the employees of AMRI hospital were divided into two groups. One group is reporting at AMRI Salt Lake and another team is reporting at AMRI Mukundapur hospital. We are concerned about their security also. We have also shifted almost all of our patients to other AMRI hospitals in the city, added the official.
