Only a week may have passed since Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot met with the Congress high command in Delhi and posed for photos, followed by a shaky truce between the warring duo, but murmurs among party leaders in Rajasthan suggest that the peace may not last for long. However, the state Congress unit is maintaining that ‘all is well’ within the party. Shortly after the truce on May 29, it was business as usual back in Rajasthan, as Pilot declared that he is not in a mood to compromise. First, it was Pilot, who during a tour of his Assembly constituency Tonk said that he will not backtrack from promises made in the public domain about corruption and future of the youth. After that, his supporters within the party have started demanding action over the issues highlighted by Pilot. “The demands that Pilot sahab has raised, are also demands of the youth, especially the demand about the corruption of Vasundhara ji (alleged corruption cases dating back to the previous BJP regime). Either swift action should be taken on them or else one should just refuse to take action. The workers are in a state of confusion whether the photo that was presented before honourable Venugopal ji is correct or there is still some anomaly,” Ved Prakash Solanki, Congress MLA from Chaksu and a Pilot supporter, recently told reporters just days after his leader’s assertion that he was not backing down. Solanki appealed to the CM to take action making it absolutely clear that he will always stand with Pilot. Solanki was among the 18 Congress legislators who sided with Pilot during the 2020 political crisis. “We stand with the high command and Congress party. There should be positive action on our demands so that a message is sent,” said Solanki. While chances of the two leaders working together don’t look very bright, ever since the truce in Delhi, the state Congress is refusing to comment on the issue to avoid any further controversy. “All is well,” state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra recently told reporters when asked about Pilot.
