Students from Gujarat, Assam found dead in 2 more suicides in Kota
According to Jawahar Nagar SHO Ram Laxman Gurjar, she was living in Kota for the last six months and preparing for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Two more alleged student suicides rocked Kota Wednesday morning, taking the number of such deaths this year to six.
Both suicides took place under Kota’s Jawahar Nagar police station limits. At around 10 am, Afsha Sheikh, 23, a native of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and living in a paying guest accommodation in Kota, allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her room.
According to Jawahar Nagar SHO Ram Laxman Gurjar, she was living in Kota for the last six months and preparing for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
Police officials said that when Sheikh did not respond to knocks by other inmates, the hostel owner had to break open the door. ASI Lalit Kumar said that no suicide note was recovered from her room.
The second suicide took place around noon when Parag, an 18-year-old from Assam who was preparing for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Mains), allegedly hanged himself. According to the police, Parag’s mother, who was visiting him, had found him hanging in the room when she returned from the market.
This takes this month’s total suicides to six. With suicides being one of the leading reasons for a decline in student enrollments in Kota, the district administration had issued an appeal assuring parents of their children’s safety. Meanwhile, hostel owners, too, had announced certain initiatives to woo back the students..
Kota district administration had claimed that 16-17 students had died by suicide in 2024.
