‘Thousands of engineering,MBA seats likely to remain vacant’

Several seats for engineering, polytechnic and MBA courses are likely to remain vacant this academic year, said the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) on Sunday.

Several seats for engineering, polytechnic and MBA courses are likely to remain vacant this academic year, said the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) on Sunday.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of an event,S K Mahajan, director,DTE, said,“This year, over 18,000 seats are likely to remain vacant in the MBA colleges in the state after the first year admissions are over by the end of this month. For diploma in ploytechnic, this is as high as 40,000 and for engineering colleges,it is about 38,000-40,000.”

Another senior official from DTE said this is due to the imbalance in the number of colleges and the students applying for such courses. “Over the last few years, the dismal placement records in many colleges has led to fewer students going for these courses. But the main reason is that the number of colleges by far exceeds the demand for them in the state,” he added.
