No Marathi question papers for Business Admin (I) exam

Second Year BCom students of University of Pune who opted for Business Administration exam in Marathi were in for a shock on Wednesday

Students who opted for Marathi will be allowed to reappear for exam on April 11

Second Year BCom students of University of Pune (UoP) who opted for Business Administration (I) exam in Marathi were in for a shock on Wednesday when they found that the question paper was not in Marathi. Some of the teachers told the students initially to translate the paper themselves and write the exam. However, the exam department of UoP said it was the responsibility of the people who set the papers to prepare them in both the languages.

Rajesh Ghare,a student of Garware College, was shocked when he was told to translate the paper himself. ¿I have always been a student of Marathi medium. Thus, when I was told that the Marathi question paper is not available,I din not know what to do,” said Ghare.

However, the teachers later translated the entire question paper and dictated it to the students which delayed the examination by an hour. “The exam which was to start at 3 started an hour late. Many of us could not write the paper properly because of the disturbance before the paper,” said another student who did not wished to be named.

A few of the students contacted a few students welfare organisations who then went to the university to talk to the controller of examination said he did not show any interest initially. Suresh Jain, general secretary of Students’ Welfare Association,Pune said,“We had to almost start a protest to make him listen to us. Many of the students could not give in their best because of carelessness of the university. There are about 3,360 students in SY BCom out of which about half appear for the exam in Marathi. Something like this would affect such a large number of students.”

After the students welfare organisations brought this to the UoPs notice,it was decided that the students will be allowed to reappear for the exam on April 11. “It is the responsibility of the people who set the question papers to set them in both the languages. However, since this has happened, the students who appeared for the Marathi paper will be allowed to reappear for the exam on April 11,” said S M Ahire, controller of examination.
