A day after expelling 10 senior students from its hostel, the Allahabad University (AU) administration today expelled them from the university on ragging charges for one year. It was also decided not to allow them hostel accommodation as and when they enroll in any course after the expiry of the one-year period.

The incident of ragging had occurred on October 3 at A N Jha hostel.

A statement issued by the AU said: “The students found guilty of ragging charges are expelled for one year. In future,if they enroll in any course, they would not be allowed accommodation in any of the hostels.”

Three of the 10 expelled students were pursuing post-graduate courses, while the remaining were second and third year students in different bachelo’s’ courses. AU PRO,Prof P K Sahu, said: “A special meeting of the Proctorial Board was held to take a decision in the matter. No other issue was discussed at the meeting.”

Although the incident of ragging had occurred on October 3 evening,it had come to light when a bunch of first year students had approached media organisations past Monday midnight.

A day later, the University authorities had swung into action expelling the accused students from the hostel. However, they claimed that there was no delay in taking action on their part.
