‘Worked on Sabarmati Riverfront… in next 5 years, we will work on Yamuna Riverfront’: Amit Shah at Delhi poll rally

“He (Kejriwal) had promised that after five years, he would take a dip in the Yamuna and clean the river. But has the Yamuna become clean?” Shah questioned.

“We have worked on the Sabarmati Riverfront (in Gujarat)… in the next five years, we will work on Yamuna Riverfront,” declared Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah on Saturday as he slammed the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government and party chief Arvind Kejriwal over the state of the river in the national capital.

“He (Kejriwal) had promised that after five years, he would take a dip in the Yamuna and clean the river. But has the Yamuna become clean?” Shah questioned.

“Can you go there for Chhath Puja? They neither cleaned it nor did they take a dip in it.”

Shah was addressing a rally in Rajouri Garden’s Subhash Nagar ahead of the high-stakes Assembly polls on February 5.

The area has a large number of people from Gujarat’s Devipujak community. According to Paras Pancholi, a BJP worker, there are 4,000-5000 voters from the community living in the Rajouri Garden Assembly constituency.

The BJP has fielded Manjinder Singh Sirsa from the seat against AAP’s Dhanwanti Chandela. The Congress has fielded Dharampal Chandela.

At the rally, Shah also attacked Kejriwal on the state of healthcare facilities in Delhi.

Calling mohalla clinics “farzi (fake)”, he said in the name of hospitals, the Kejriwal government just opened these clinics and ran scams in their name. “What if you need surgery… where will you go?” he asked the crowd.

Shah also said no one in Delhi is benefiting from the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, but if AAP is removed, Delhi’s residents will get health benefits worth not just Rs 5 lakh but up to Rs 10 lakh.

He also said the AAP is spreading lies that all welfare schemes will end if the BJP comes to power. “Modi ji has clarified that no gareeb kalyan scheme is going to be stopped,” he stressed.

Calling on the gathering to support the BJP, he said “to make Delhi the number one capital in the world, the Modi government must also be given a chance in Delhi”.

“The people of Delhi are not happy under AAP’s rule. In 10 years, they haven’t delivered any work, only broken promises, and have deceived the people. Furthermore, AAP is now indulging in low-level politics, claiming that the BJP will end all welfare schemes. Kejriwal has only deceived people. Under the pretence of connectivity, roads are broken, the mohalla clinic initiative has led to scams in medical tests, and he has turned Delhi’s streets into lakes in the rain. They’ve eradicated the concept of good governance,” he said.

“Kejriwal also claimed to make Delhi pollution-free, but even today, Delhiites, especially the elderly, are suffering from respiratory issues due to pollution… If people want clean water, the best education, a pollution-free Delhi, and a corruption-free government, then they must remove the AAP government,” said the minister.

Kejriwal’s government, Shah went on, also engaged in a massive liquor scam and both the Delhi Education Minister and CM went to jail. He alleged that the money that was meant to build hospitals, new schools, clean the city, and purify the Yamuna was misused in large-scale corruption.

Shah also addressed a rally in Trinagar in support of BJP candidate Tilak Ram Gupta.

Responding to the allegations, Kejriwal said Shah didn’t mention a single plan for Delhi’s development in his speech. “Amit Shah is a big man, the country’s Home Minister, with access to massive resources and power through the central government. Yet, in a 30-minute speech, all he did was hurl abuses at me,” he said at rallies in Narela, Rohini and Bawana.

The AAP chief also said he built 500 mohalla clinics in Delhi. “If Shah had built 5,000, people would be praising him. I constructed 1,000 schools in Delhi; he could have built 10,000, and I wouldn’t even have been mentioned.”

“But the reality is, they don’t do any work. In 10 years, they haven’t built a single school, college, or mohalla clinic. They haven’t addressed the safety of women or the needs of businesspersons. Our youth are still unemployed. Amit Shah just abuses Arvind Kejriwal and then asks people for votes. But Delhiites will vote for those who work, not for those who abuse,” he said.
He also took to his ‘X’ handle and said: “Today, Amit Shah came to Delhi and left after hurling abuses at me. Will abusing me lead to Delhi’s development? They neither have a plan for Delhi nor any vision. If nothing else, they could have at least repeated the facilities we are already providing. BJP has surrendered in Delhi. Their election is over.”
