Whose bullets hit men? Probe on

A day after clash in Tilak Vihar, police crack down on rioters; Sikh delegation meets LG

A day after a communal clash between Sikhs and Valmikis in West Delhi’s Tilak Vihar left 25 people injured, police on Friday said they were probing whether five men who suffered gunshot wounds in the violence were injured in police firing or by shots fired by the public.

Police claimed both police and the men who took part in the clash had opened fire,so only an investigation would ascertain whose bullets hit these men,the police’s or the rioters’.

ACP (West) V Renganathan said,“We cannot tell whose bullets hit the men who sustained gunshot injuries. This can be ascertained only after obtaining the medical report.”

Cracking down on the trouble-mongers a day after the clash, police said they had identified the men and would arrest them as soon as normalcy returned to the area.

In another development,on the direction of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Badal,a delegation comprising senior leaders of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and SAD on Friday met Delhi’s Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung.

Condemning the “attack on Sikhs” in Tilak Vihar, the delegation — led by SAD-Badal senior vice-president and Delhi affairs in-charge Balwant Singh Ramoowalia — blamed the Congress-led government in Delhi.

The delegation also questioned the role of Delhi Police, saying “firing of gunshots and teargas shells, and lathi-charge was unwarranted”.
