Every year on June 21,hundreds of musicians amateur and professional gather in the streets of Paris,a little after sundown,and enthrall the crowds. Now,the Fete de le Musique,which dates to 1982,arrives in the Capital complete with drumrolls and trumpet sounds.
Organised by Alliance Française,the fiesta on June 20 is open to anyone who wants to perform,and free to anyone who wants to attend. Thus,it is a true musical festival, says Mitushi Khurana,Cultural Coordinator of the event.
Delhis centre of all things bohemian,Hauz Khas Village,is the chief address for the Fete de le Musique. Elmas Bakery will host an aperitif concert,dedicated to classical music. The café is providing a piano and you can showcase your musical skills,after which you can gorge on one of Elmas red velvet cakes. At the same time,The Rose hotel,will host a poetry slam an open-mic where you can read,sing or rap your favourite verses. If you fancy a stroll around the village,theres entertainment there as well the streets of Hauz Khas will have open-air acoustic performances,with musicians performing around street corners,in keeping with the original concept of the Parisian Fête de le musique.
Meanwhile,Italian Jazz group,Paolo Fatori and the Ghost Crabs will liven up The Living Room Cafe at 9.30 pm. The celebrations continue into the next evening,with 13 musicians and dancers of Stiff Kittens presenting a tribute to French singer composer,Serge Gainsbourg at Blue Frog in Mehrauli. On June 29,Blue Frog will host a performance by French electro-jazz dance band No Jazz.
