Works of art hang from the walls,are spread across the floors,and even shine from the jewellery pieces on display,at the second anniversary exhibition of Latitude 28 in Lado Sarai. “I wanted to make sure our second anniversary exhibition makes an impact and represents the different artists I have worked with. It is a celebratory show after all,” says Bhavna Kakar,owner of the gallery,as she looks around the displays,which boast signatures of different generations

of artists.

If young monks in maroon robes read scriptures in GR Iranna’s Monks and Roots,Rajesh Ram rolls together newspapers into a home in Jahan Dhad Wahan. At one level,Prajjwal Choudhury’s Whatever You Are Will Be Thrown Out After The Last Stick,speaks of morality,at another,it is a tribute to art and artists who have influenced Choudhury. The work is a collage of matchboxes pasted with stamp-sized images of various iconic works,from Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa to Subodh Gupta’s Everything Is Inside,a bronze installation that features the famous Mumbai taxi. Artwork are priced from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.

Vying for attention at the opening last week,however,was jewellery painted by Seema Kohli and designed by Mumbai-based Kanchan Khubchandani. Even as guests gushed over the gold-plated neckpieces and armlets,woven with pearls and stones like jade and topaz,Kohli shared details of the painted motifs. “It is from the Kundalini series,” she said of a few pieces. The price tag? Rs 40,000 for an armlet and Rs 90,000 upwards for neck-pieces .
