Two persons died and two others were critically injured when a speeding car rammed them in Dwarka,Southwest Delhi on Monday afternoon. A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered under Sections 279 and NA304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to police, the incident took place at 1 pm near a traffic signal in Dwarka Sector-1,when the accused identified as Sonia (40) was returning home in her Santro. Sonia rammed some of the pedestrians there. Draupadi (67) and Meena (48) were the worst hit and were rushed to Ayushman hospital where Draupadi was declared dead on arrival. Later,Meena succumbed to her injuries, Additional Commissioner of Police (Southwest),Anil Kumar Ojha told Newsline.
Two other persons Ryan Bansal and Poonam were critically injured in the accident and are reportedly admitted in the ICU.
It seems that the accused was either overspeeding or lost control. There is little possibility that she was drunk because she was perfectly coherent when we met her. The impact of the accident was so hard that all the victims were in a very bad shape. They were bleeding profusely and we lost no time in taking them to the hospital. However, they had lost a lot of blood by then and had severe head and internal injuries, a senior police officer said.
Sonia, police said,is a resident of Dwarka Sector-23. She has been apprehended and was being questioned.
