The BJP’s PM nominee Narendra Modi’s rally in the capital, scheduled to be held on Monday, has been called off. According to party sources, Modi is expected in the capital on Monday for the release of the election manifesto. But leaders said he would give the rally, scheduled to be held at Ramlila Maidan, a miss owing to a “tight schedule and preoccupation with the national manifesto”.
Sources said the change in plans has not gone down well with the party’s Delhi candidates.
“There are a few reasons for cancellation, including Modi’s tight schedule and preoccupation with the national manifesto,” a senior BJP leader said.
Delhi BJP’s election committee chairman V K Malhotra said Modi will address the people of Delhi ‘virtually’ on Monday evening. He said 14 nine-foot high screens have been installed across Delhi to live stream Modi’s address from Ahmedabad.
“In a rally he will be addressing a limited gathering. But through live-streaming, he would be with all the citizens of Delhi.
This will be the launch of his virtual campaigning,” he said.
