Three held for suspected honour killing

The three had earlier tried to falsely implicate their neighbours in the crime,and had lodged cases of dacoity and murder against them to mislead the investigation,they added.

Police said Nargis had fallen in love with one Saqib,also a resident of her village Mansuri. On the night of November 14,she went to Saqib’s house. However,Saqib refused to marry her,police said.

Raghubir Lal,Senior Superintendent of Police (Ghaziabad),said,“Members of Saqib’s family informed Imran and asked him to take his daughter from their home. Imran and Javed then took her from Saqib’s home and dropped her off at an uncle’s house in Parikshitgarh. Ashamed of her actions,Imran had arranged her marriage in Meerut but Nargis wanted to live with Saqib. On the night of November 23,Imran and Parvez shot her. They have confessed to the crime.”

The duo reportedly told police that they shot Nargis four times. Parvez’s told police,“I shot her once in the head while she was sleeping,but she didn’t die immediately and woke up. My father fired the other three shots. Nargis kept pleading with us not to kill her and said that she would end her life herself. After people heard the firing,Saqib’s brother Wasim,came into the house. We tried to detain him at the house,and teach him a lesson. But his family member’s came and after a fight,took him away.”

Imran told police that the next day,to throw investigations off track,they filed a case of dacoity and murder against Saqib and Wasim.

“We thought that this way,we would save our honour,and we would punish them for having an affair with Nargis. We would be saved in the process,” the accused told police.
