Investigation into the seizure of 10 kg heroin — worth nearly Rs 35 crore in the international market — from two men who were arrested on Wednesday has led police to suspect it to be a case of cross-border narco-terrorism.
The arrested men — Ajay B and Siddeekh S — belong to Kerala. They allegedly told police that they picked up the contraband from Srinagar. It was found concealed in the lining of parcel packages which had stars and moon symbols, and stamp markings like Speen Ghar Ltd, 555 and 333 on it, police said.
Sources said the two have confessed to receiving the consignment from a woman across the border.
Police said the accused collected the consignment from Kashmir and brought it to Delhi.
“This indicates that the accused are getting drugs from across the porous border. We got the information that they were taking the contraband to UP and Bihar. We are questioning them to ascertain the trail,” an officer said. Police are also probing the role of women conduits.
DCP Sanjeev Yadav of the Special Cell said they got a tip off on January 13 that two people from Kerala will be travelling to Srinagar to collect a consignment of drugs.
“They came to Delhi with the drugs and were supposed to board a bus to Mathura from ISBT Sarai Kale Khan. A team led by Umesh Barthwal laid a trap and apprehended the accused,” Yadav said.
Police said Ajay is the son of a former Indian Army personnel. The second accused, Siddeekh, is a taxi driver in Dubai. Police said Siddeekh was lured into the drug trade while in Dubai.
“After questioning the two men, we were able to establish that the drugs were being transported from Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. These drugs were being distributed in UP , Bihar and Haryana. More arrests are likely in days to come,” the officer said.
