The chill that has set in in the Capital is set to magnify. The India Meteorological Department has predicted rain on Wednesday and Thursday, caused by a Western Disturbance that will originate in Jammu and Kashmir and spread to the rest of Northwest India.
Due to the rains, the daytime temperature will dip by one to two degrees and settle at 18 degrees Celsius. On Monday, the daytime temperature was recorded at 21 degrees Celsius. There will be light rain, and some areas of the city may not experience any. The temperatures will, however, dip for two days, said the Officer on Duty at the Safdarjung Met Department.
The minimum temperature will, however, rise due to the presence of moisture in the air. While on Monday it was recorded at 6.1 degrees Celsius,on Wednesday and Thursday,it is expected to touch 8 or 9 degrees Celsius. According to Met officials, despite the rise in minimum temperature, cold winds will add to the chill factor.
The Met Department said this will be the first rains recorded in December, which is considered a dry month. The month receives about 4.3 mm on an average. This year, however, rainfall during November was more than normal, with four days of recordable rain and three days of traces of rain. A total of 26 mm was recorded during in November.
