Choreographers Bosco Martis and Caesar Gonsalves find training children for Chak Dhoom Dhoom more enjoyable than adults
As mentors on Chak Dhoom Dhoom,what exactly are you subpposed to do?
Bosco: Were supposed to be tutoring and choreographing. So far,of course,weve only taught the children the basics in order to figure out which child is capable of what and how much. The real fun will begin when we get down to specifics.
Caesar: We will ensure that the children have an all-round training. So a child whos good in lavani,will be trained in hip-hop as well,and someone whos good at locking,will also get trained in tap dance.
Bosco: Well,its definitely more fun because children are so flexible. Plus a child of five will dance very differently from a child of ten even though they may be performing the same steps. Its interesting to observe these little differences.
Caesar: Its in fact vital to teach children at a young age since what they learn then is what theyll retain forever.
Is there any particular child or incident that stands out so far?
Bosco: Not really. All the children have displayed immense talent,but the whole process of pruning a group of 40 youngsters down to a mere 16 will be very exacting.
There has been a lot of outcry over children being forced to perform under pressure in shows like this. Do you think its justified?
Caesar: Such competition can have its ugly side,of course,and things can get too much for children. But it is at this young age that they learn important things like discipline and team work. In fact,from what Ive seen at the training sessions,these youngsters have become very attached to each other. There is no question of unhealthy competition.
What makes Bosco-Caesar different from other choreographers?
Caesar: Were different because we tailor the dance to a persons unique body language. Why do you think Katrina Kaif became so popular for the dance she did in Zara Zara Touch Me in Race? Its because we observed her,figured out what she would look good doing,and then trained her in that.
Although youve been around for over a decade,youve only recently gained this level of popularity. What do you consider as your breakthrough?
Bosco: I think winning all the awards that we did this year was a pretty big deal for us and got us noticed by the public.
In all your years of experience,which is the dance youve had the most difficulty in persuading someone to do?
Bosco: People are very reluctant to try the body wave. I think its because they feel theyll look ridiculous if they do it.
Caesar: Ive noticed that not many people want to try krumping. I suppose its because it is essentially a very confrontational dance and not very easy to synchronise for a team.
Do many people take you to be a single person,instead of a duo?
Caesar: A million times.
