Stroke of Luck

Before they jump on to the London Olympics bandwagon, there will be something that the Indian sporting contingent will have to take along — a huge flex with messages of good luck and support from back home. What’s Up Bharat,a Delhi-based community which stands for social change,is organising a live graffiti act in Hauz Khas Village by a group of artists from in and around the city, this Saturday at 4:30 pm. “A giant flex will be put up opposite the village parking lot and eight or nine artists from our organisation and the Delhi College of Art will kickstart the event — Graffiti For Gold — with their strokes and splashes,” says Apurv Agrawal of What’s up Bharat, adding,“Daku,a well-known graffiti artist from Delhi, will be joining us,too.”

The event is being hosted in collaboration with Olympic Gold Quest,a platform co-founded by Indian sport icons Geet Sethi and Prakash Padukone, which encourages, trains and prepares Indian sportspersons to win the Olympic Gold. “The initiative is open to anyone who wants to join — as long as they bring their spray cans and paints along,” adds Agrawal. On completion, the piece of artwork will be sent to London as a gesture of support and encouragement for the Indian team. As the crowd scribbles away,a band of local musicians from Hauz Khas Village will sing and strum their guitars on the side, through the evening.
