Soon,mercury’s march to be displayed on weather boards

These boards will be put up outside all Commonwealth Games venues,so people commuting along Lutyens’ Delhi,Ring Road and Vivek Vihar,among other areas,will be able to get weather details on the move.

What’s more,instead of giving out just one common data for all places,officials said each board will give details of temperature of the area where it is located,with help from temperature-measuring equipment to be placed at all stadiums.

The IMD is installing the Digital Display Systems with help from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM),Pune,which will also manage dissemination of information on the boards.

Dr Farhan Beig,a scientist from the Pune institute said the institute’s branch on Pusa Road here will be the control room. “We will receive the data from each Games venues and then change it into layman’s terms and feed it to the boards,” he told Newsline over telephone from Pune.

Beig said the display boards will be similar to the one placed outside Mausam Bhawan on Lodhi Road at present. One DDS will also be placed outside the IITM branch on Pusa Road.

Besides the outdoor boards,IMD is also procuring six LCD monitors for indoor viewing. One such monitor is expected to be placed in each of the six venue clusters: Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex,Indira Gandhi Sports Complex,Yamuna Sports Complex,Siri Fort Sports Complex,MDC National Stadium Complex,and Talkatora Garden Complex.

Air quality will be denoted by showing the quantity of six different pollutants present in the air on these boards.

The invitation for tenders was brought out last year and IITM is at present procuring them,officials said.
