When Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta aka Lady Gaga was bringing the house down with her hit single,Bloody Mary the dark electro-ballad from her album Born This Way,last year, one name that was doing the rounds besides those wild hairdos, clothes and relegious references to Mary Magdalene, was DJ Snake the producer of the track.
Infusing trance melody by way of plucked strings and slow tempo, the music of the album was considered a notable departure from Gagas previous works. Be it the Gregorian chants-inspired vocals in Bloody Mary or elements of operatic vocals in Government Hooker, the album hit the rooftops the moment it came out. Lady Gaga was looking out for new talent to produce her album and my music seduced her. It was a real gamble. Lady Gaga ordered me two sounds. I sent two instrumentals that subsequently became Bloody Mary and Government Hooker, says William Grigahcine,a French musician, who plays under the moniker DJ Snake.
On his first visit to India,Snake spinned a slew of tracks at The Lalits nightclub,Kitty Su,last evening. On his first gig in India,Grigahcine says,Everybody is excited about India and there are so many international celebrities
talking about the country. I was looking for an opportunity to travel here.
Twenty five-year-old Snake, who was nominated for the Grammy this year for Born this Way,has also worked with Pitbull and Akon in the past. But most of the popularity has come his way because of Lady Gaga, who has beaten the bullies and conquered the top. Lady Gaga is working with a very closed team. She is super professional. What she wants is to bring fresh music. Shes the best pop artiste today in terms of creativity and talent. She does not follow the hype, shes the hype,” says Snake, who believes that her colossal concept videos and alternately sexy and absurd music videos have never made her music take a backseat.
She has a strong personality but at the same time, she is one hell of a talented person, says Snake, who played a mix of hip-hop and pop at the gig last evening.
