Singh is King

Designer Rajesh Pratap Singh’s collection “Let’s Face It” salvaged a dull day at the Wills India Fashion Week.

Designer Rajesh Pratap Singh’s collection “Let’s Face It” salvaged a dull day at the Wills India Fashion Week. Dark dreams ruled as models negotiated an installation on the ramp to unfurl minimalist jackets with big, trapezoidal collars (picture). He skipped the pleats in skirts, lending a solid contour to the female body, and gave an edgy twist to high-waisted trousers with a classic bow. The palette,of black, brown and grey, however, was panned by some fashionistas as a reminder of economic reality. Singh demurred,“There were 20 blacks and four shades of brown and if you can’t find the difference you are colour-blind”.

Ashima Leena’s tepid show was made bearable by Slumdog Millionaire kids Rubina and Azharuddin who regaled the crowd. And the lure of a star-studded presence at Manish Malhotra’s pulled in a massive audience. Sitting across the aisle were Amrita Rao in Malhotra’s black number and Sophie Chowdhury, while cricketer Murali Karthik did a turn on the ramp.
