29th November 2010 was a historic occasion for Delhi Public School,R K Puram,as that was when its Pre-Pharmacy Club was inaugurated. The club was founded by a Class XII student,Jannat Saini,under the guardianship of the Principal,D R Saini. to create awareness on the various aspects of pharmacy among the students . The special guests who attended the event were Farhan Ahmad,president,Indian Pharmaceutical Association,Delhi; R K Khar,professor of the Hamdard College of Pharmacy; Aparajita Takiar,managing director,Lark Laboratories Ltd; Naresh Sharma,joint secretary,Indian Pharmaceutical Association,Delhi branch; Sonia Kaul,director,Corporate Relations,The Indian Pharmacist ; Kalhan,general secretary,Indian Pharmaceutical Association,Delhi branch,and Mohan Bazaz,who has been associated with The Eastern Pharmacist for over 40 years. Also present was Kelly McDonnell,Senior International Marketing Officer (Asia),King’s College,London . The event began with a welcome address by the principal,D R Saini. A short cultural programme,comprising a traditional Bharatnatyam dance by a student of class XII,a contemporary group dance by Western dancers of the school and a rousing rendition of a popular song by the Indian music choir,was also held on the occasion.

RK Puram wins inter-DPS cricket tournament

The inter-DPS cricket tournament 2010 was held at DPS Noida from November 25 to 29. While DPS RK Puram defeated DPS Vasant Kunj in the quarterfinals,DPS RK Puram was defeated by DPS Faridabad in the semi-finals. The final was played between DPS RK Puram and DPS Noida. DPS RK Puram won the finals and Vrishbhanu was adjudged man of the match. Tarang Gupta was declared the best all-rounder of the tournament while Vishal Adhalka was declared the best fielder.

ve Us A Chance’ exhibition at Appejay School,Saket

The students of Class VIII of Apeejay School,Saket,organised an exhibition for the parents on November 27,2010,to showcase the work they had undertaken for a project titled ‘Give Us A Chance’. It was held as part of the International School Award ( ISA) of the British Council. During the exhibition,they displayed research material pertaining to endangered animals from across the globe. The special guests for the morning included Suresh Kumar Rohilla,senior co-ordinator,Centre for Science and Environment,and Nita Nangia Goswami,director,Environment Education Division of the Worldwide Fund for Nature ( WWF),India.

Mangalam school to hold sports day on December 18

The much-awaited sports meet of KR Mangalam World School,Vikaspuri,will be held on December 18.

The heats are currently being conducted,and only the final events will be held on the main day. The practice routines for the cultural events are being taken up in full swing. Ensuring 100 per cent participation,teachers and students are putting in their best efforts to make the show a grand success.

A meeting of principals and resource persons from all Apeejay Schools was hosted by the one at Saket on October 30. The meeting was chaired by Sushma Berlia,president,Apeejay Education Society,and convened by G C Vats,educational advisor,and V S Garg,educational advisor-cum HRD officer,Apeejay Education Society. In her keynote address,Berlia highlighted the need for faster professional development to keep teachers aware of the emerging changes in the field of education. While speaking on the ‘Role of Resource Persons’,G C Vats,Educational Advisor,Apeejay Education Society, said resource persons should plan in-service programmes with achievable goals — taking into account the needs and resources available in schools.

Garg also spoke on ‘Strategies for Teacher Development Programmes’.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by D K Bedi,principal,Apeejay School,Pitampura.

das Goradia Inter-School Hindi Debate held

The Indian School hosted the sixth Amidas Goradia Inter-School Hindi Debate for students of classes IV and V in the school’s foundation hall on December 3.

As many as 13 prominent schools in Delhi debated on topics as varied as the influence of advertising,the obsoleteness of old grandma tales and abolition of holiday homework,among others.

Syeda Imam,the chief guest,was especially impressed by the young speakers’ proficiency in Hindi.

Renowned Hindi author,Chitra Mudgal,the guest of honour,proclaimed that children are the greatest ‘gurus’,and their innocence and inherent honesty lend greater charm to their words.

While DPS Vasant Kunj was judged as the best school,the rolling trophy went to The Indian School.

letic meet at Mount Carmel School,Anand Niketan

Mount Carmel Junior School held their athletic meet on November 30.The chief guest for the event was principal VK Williams. The theme of the meet was ‘Run to win’ with Shera as the mascot. The tracks were transformed into a virtual fairyland with a series of innovative races that were named ‘Beauty and the Beast’,‘Little Red Riding Hood’,‘Cinderella and the Chariot’,‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’,‘The Shoemaker’ and ‘The Elves’. The students of Classes I,II and III displayed a beautifully coordinated march past where all the eight houses participated.

De Monte,conducted the morning assembly,which was followed by an inspiring talk by Aloka Bose,the academic supervisor. The teachers put up an enthralling Qawalli and solo dance programme much to the student’s appreciation. Coupons were distributed among children,so they could get something to eat. The day ended with a jam session.
