Serious affair,will probe: V-C

Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental on Wednesday said he would form an inquiry committee to look into the incident that led to a radioactive substance from the university’s Chemistry department ending up in the Mayapuri scrap market.

“We cannot have such things lying around in a university — this is a serious affair,” he said. “The police have not approached me yet. The news came to me late in the day (and) we will look into the matter tomorrow morning.”

Faculty at the University’s Chemistry Department also denied any knowledge of the gamma cell. “As far as I know,no faculty in the department is working on any project that involves radioactive material,” a senior faculty of the Chemistry department said. “Every senior faculty has a lab,so few of us would know details of equipment stored in another lab.”
