Master Chef is one of the activities in the calendar of the Junior Wing of Delhi Public School,Mathura Road. The students and the teachers of Classes IV and V took part whole heartedly in the event. This year,Class IV displayed cuisines of different states of India such as Rajasthan,Kashmir,West Bengal,Gujarat,UP, and Punjab.

Class V students displayed cuisines of various countries such as China,Japan,Thailand,Mexico,Lebanon and Spain.

The event was not just about cuisines. Each and every student along with their teachers showcased the rich culture of that region in the form of costumes,handicrafts,monuments,music,dance,etc. The children also learned how to serve a particular dish,table manners and etiquette.

The best part of the activity was that the students not only learnt about a particular region but also about the nutritive and caloric value of the food.

Grandparents’ Day at Mount Carmel School

Mount Carmel Junior School,Anand Niketan,celebrated Grandparents’ Day on September 21. The Headmistress S P Pearlson welcomed the grandparents and enlightened them about the principles and values of Mount Carmel.

The programme began with an opening. The nursery students presented two special songs for their grandparents. They also performed two foot-tapping dance numbers to express their love for their grandparents. The programme ended with a special game for grandparents,which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The nursery children presented their grandparents with mementos specially prepared by them. Later,the grandparents interacted with the teachers.

Melting boundaries at ASN Sr Sec School

ASN Sr Sec School,Mayur Vihar,held their Annual Day function of Primary Wing on October 29. The theme of the day was “Around the Globe”. The chief guest for the occasion was S K Goel,Director General,ICCR,and his wife Shalini Goel.

The programme started with the lighting of the lamp followed by the welcome speech by Sonia Luthra,Principal,ASN Senior Secondary School.

The students put up an exhibition of various countries like the UK,Egypt,Turkey,Malaysia and China where they depicted the cultures,historical monuments,food and festivals of each of these countries. The programme also showcased an array of folklore from these countries in the form of dances. The little dancers had the audience spellbound with their well choreographed moves.

Chief guest S K Goel addressed the gathering and said the purpose of education is to make responsible,well-aware and educated citizens who can understand,value and appreciate multi-culturalism,as the future belonged to youngsters.

Chairman K L Luthra said the school believed in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (Sanskrit for ‘the world is a family’) and said it was important to prepare children to become global citizens.

Peace Day celebrations at Bal Bharati School

Peace Day celebrations at Bal Bharati Public School,Pitampura,has always been a special highlight of its curriculum. From Montessori to Senior school,all students enthusiastically participate in the activities planned for them every year.

This year too,the school community participated in several activities and initiatives,which took on a special significance owing to the school’s association with the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.

The Montessori level students expressed their faith in world peace through drama,art and craft. The primary level students organised a special assembly to spread awareness about the importance of peaceful coexistence and conducted a peace march. The march went from each school to school in the locality,collecting peace messages from the head of each institution.

The Middle and Senior school students visited temples and gurdwaras,met religious heads and expressed their ideas on peace in a ‘peace scroll’.

The Principal of the school,Meenu Goswami,said: “Let each one of us work to make ourselves a better person,a positive person,for,if we are happy and peaceful within,we will create peace around us. Loving and accepting people for what they are creates bonds that lead to harmonious coexistence and creates an atmosphere for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. Let us remember that above all,we are human beings and let us strive to become good human beings and peace will prevail. Let each one of us realise the divinity within us and add our drop to world peace.”
