DPS RK Puram wins TT championship

The IPSC Table Tennis Championship for girls was held at Welham Girls School,Dehradun,from August 24 to 26,2011. DPS,R K Puram,participated in the under-19 and under-17 team and in the individual championship. The participating institutions were Scindia School,Gwalior; Mayo Girls,Ajmer; Ashok Hall ,Nanital; Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls School,Jaipur; Rajkumar College,Rajkot,and DPS RK Puram. DPS RK Puram (Under-19) team played against MGD School,Jaipur,in the semi-finals and defeated it by 3-0,but in the finals lost to Welhams by 3-0. The DPS RK Puram (under-17) team played against Rajkumar College,Rajkot,in the semi-finals and defeated it by 3-0. In the finals,DPS RK Puram defeated the host school,Welhams, by 3-0. Riti Shankar of DPS RK Puram won the individual championship,defeating Anchal Malhotra of DPS RK Puram in the finals by 7-5.

Tagore International School makes it big

Sanya Chikkara of Class X-C and Akshit Chopra of Tagore International School,Vasant Vihar, were a part of the delegation that attended the Asian Youth Development Programme-2011 in Okinawa from August 7 to August 23. AYDPO- 2011 was an 18- day programme wherein 48 high school students from 14 Asian countries shared valuable time and interacted with each other to learn and understand water-related issues. The programme was fully sponsored by the Okinawa Prefectural Government. It was attended by 26 foreign participants and 22 domestic participants in the mainland of Japan and Okinawa. The participating countries — besides India — were Negara,Brunei,Darussalam, Cambodia,China,Indonesia,Republic of Korea,Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia,Republic of the Philippines,Republic of Singapore,Thailand and Vietnam. Two participants from each country were hosted by the Okinawa Prefecture. The students attended workshops,seminars,and interactive sessions through their stay,which gave them an insight into environmental issues — especially the water-related ones. Besides this,18 students — along with two teachers of Tagore International School,Vasant Vihar — were invited to represent India in the ‘Global grand gathering of boys and girls – Meeting in Beijing. The event was held in Beijing on August 14,2011.

BVB celebrates 53rd annual day

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya celebrated its 53rd annual day ‘Parakram-2011 on August 24 at the Kamani Auditorium. The occasion showcased the multifaceted talents of its pupils,standing testimony to their brilliant academic achievements. The chief guest for the programme was Arvinder Singh Lovely,Minister of Transport and EducationDelhi government. Other dignitaries included Ashok Pradhan,director of Bhavan’s Delhi Kendra; Veeraraghavan,chairman of Bhavan; K M Munshi Institution of Leadership and Management; A S Verma,advisor of BVB and Guru Dutt,president of Bhavanites’ alumni association.

St Mark School’s trip to Kingdom of Dreams

The ultimate entertainment and leisure destination was the magnificent Kingdom of Dreams,where students from classes III to V of St Mark’s Sr Sec Public School,Meera Bagh,went on August 16 ,2011. The students were spellbound ,keenly observing the magnificent structures that towered above them. The huge,blue ,artificial sky roof and the spot lights were particularly attention-catching. The students were delighted to observe various folk performances. They were also mesmerized with a spectacular presentation – Acromania: The Great Mongolian

Circus — at Nautanki Mahal. The artists performed acts inspired by Mongolian culture,using a combination of dancing ,acting,acrobatics and juggling.

Business mélange at DPS RK Puram

Peter F Drucker said,“In every successful business,somebody has once made a courageous decision”,launching the 9th Business Mélange 2011,hosted by Delhi Public School,RK Puram.The event was organised by the Business Studies Club of the school. This year,the mélange comprised four events: a business quiz,a Just-A-Minute competition,an e-poster-making competition and Adz ap. Dr Poonam Verma,principal of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies,graced the occasion as the chief guest. The other judges were Anuja Mathur from the department of Business Studies at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies; Bhuvana Ravi, member of the National Stock Exchange; Shreya Manocha,ex-student of DPS RK Puram and former editor of the Business Studies Club,and Kanav Mayar,also an ex-student of the school. The event commenced with the school band playing the song Bed of Roses. A scintillating Odissi dance performance followed. The mesmerizing melodies of the Saraswati vandana had the audience spellbound,while the dance performance by the Jazz Club of the school had students applauding enthusiastically. The tiny tots of DPS Shiksha Kendra,a school for the underprivileged run on the premises of DPS RK Puram,performed a dance — a tribute to our National Army. The Adzap event saw 38 teams participating,advertising products such as ‘Goldy Disco Belt’,‘Rajnikanth Anti-Ageing Cream’,‘Hit Mosquito Repellent Phone’,‘Tom and Jerry Friendship Band’ and ‘Ghajini Memory Pills’. Many of the performances had the audience splitting with laughter. Song and dance performances were organised between the ads to keep the audience entertained.
