World Population Day celebrated at DPS
As part of the World Population Day,the DPS Society in co-operation with Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh (JSK),reached out to over 40,000 young adolescents studying in Classes IX to XII in the states of UP,Bihar,MP,Rajasthan,Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. A sincere and meaningful effort was initiated to create awareness on population issues and population stabilisation among young minds through various competitive activities and coming together of students from diverse backgrounds.
These past four weeks have witnessed hectic student activity at 200 government and private schools. Inter-school and zonal competitions were organised through 20 DPS schools in six states. The competitions were on themes like population,environment and sustainable development. August 20 was the culmination of the month-long activities as the national finals of the debate and quiz took place. The topic for the national debate was A large young population is an asset to India. The panel of judges comprised C Jayanti,Assistant Director,Rai Foundation,Dr Ranawat from the Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh,and Maya Jain,Assistant Professor,Lady Sri Ram College.
Investiture ceremony at Apeejay School
Apeejay School,Pitampura organised the oath-taking ceremony of the newly constituted prefectorial board members on August 13 in the school. The prefectorial board members were chosen as representatives of the school fraternity. This year,the prefectorial board has 32 members with K Aditya as the head boy and Avneet Grover as the head girl. These students are expected to show exemplary behaviour and inculcate the same values in their fellow students. The chief guest of the day,Captain Varun Rathee handed over the badges to the new prefectorial board. The ceremony was followed by a cultural programme that included dance and music.
Bluebells School hosts teachers convention
Bluebells School International,in association with Pravah and Sir Ratan Tata Trust,hosted a teachers convention on The role of schools as healing spaces,in which over 100 educators from private and government schools from across the country came together.
It offered a forum for educators to share their ideas,experiences and concerns and build support in preparing young people to engage with social conflicts,allowing for their growth and development into responsible citizens and professionals.
Speaker at the event Dr Dinesh Singh,Director,University of Delhi,highlighted the challenges that lie ahead for educators. Dr Balasubramaniam,former chairman,CBSE,directed the teachers to maintain a synergy between various facets of life be it the subjects or the skills of the head,mind and heart.
Professor Shyam Menon,Vice-Chancellor,Ambedkar University,guided the teaching fraternity to maintain sensitivity towards the children. The conference explored different methodologies that promote non-threatening spaces through a session by Jaya Iyer,a theatre and education expert,a puppet-making workshop by Ishara Puppet Theatre Group and understanding active citizenship through a session with the Pravah team.
Annual day at Cambridge,Indirapuram
The annual prize distribution celebrations of Cambridge School,Indirapuram,was held on August 19 at the Roma Deb Auditorium.
The school band,with their kilts and bagpipes,the clang of cymbals,and the roll of the drums,heralded the arrival of chief guest Dr Kaushik Basu,Chief Economic Adviser,Ministry of Finance,his wife Alaka Basu,school guide and mentor secretary,SAE,Dr Kalyani Roy,our school manager,Amitabha Bhattacharya,and other dignitaries.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by the guests to usher in the light of hope,prosperity and happiness. In her school report,principal Jasleen Kaur apprised the parents about the outstanding achievements of the students. A hilarious play based on a folktale by Mamta Pandaya had the spectators in fits of laughter.
School exhibition at Mount Carmel
The band of Mount Carmel School,Anand Niketan,gave their debut performance at the inauguration of the school exhibition. The chief guest was Dr Ramesh Sharma,principal of Motilal Nehru College. There were other cultural programmes,which included songs by the Indian and Western music choirs and a fusion dance. Dr Ramesh Sharma gave a motivational speech and recited one of his poems that was received with great enthusiasm by the students. The speech was followed by the prize distribution ceremony during which the students were honoured for excellence in sports and academics.
Women from the slum areas,who were taught by the students and teachers of MCS were also given prizes. The inauguration of the school exhibition brought the celebrations to an end.
Oath ceremony at Poorna Prajna Public School
Poorna Prajna Public School,Vasant Kunj,hosted its investiture ceremony to induct newly elected members of the student council. The ushers welcomed the principal,Sangeeta Mattoo,chief guest,H L Suresh,Vice-Chairman,Poorna Prajna Management Committee and other board members. The ceremony commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The school choirs rendition of Vakratantu Ganesha marked the formal start of the ceremony. The swearing-in ceremony began with the administration of the oath. The ceremonial oath encapsulated the spirit of dedication to the glory of the school. The ceremony ended with a parade by the contingents of the four school houses.
