It’s been a while since Delhi tennis player Rohit Bisht has lasted far into a tournament week,a far cry from the days when the former national No 1 in his category used to race his way to titles.

The prolonged slump in form continued on Wednesday, when Haryana’s Ajay Yadav methodically dismantled his game in a 6-4 7-6 (5) victory at the Under-16 Nationals in Mumbai. Rohit was seeded third in the tournament.

His younger brother Ronit, however, ensured there would be at least one Bisht in the quarter-final line-up after he got past R Ramkumar of Tamil Nadu 7-6 6-3.

In the quarters, second seed Ronit will face Digvijay Singh Mehta of Himachal Pradesh. Fifth seed Mehta took out Gujarat’s Suraj Konwar after a three-set battle at the MSLTA courts on Wednesday. He won the match 7-6 5-7 6-0.

In the girls’ event,Delhi’s Simran Kaur Sethi, part of the Mission 2018 contingent training at Mahesh Bhupathi’s tennis academy in Bangalore, lost to 12th seed Sharon Paul of Tamil Nadu 6-3 6-3.

Another player from the Capital, unseeded Nehal Sahni pulled off a big win over 11th seed Vaidehi Bhagwat of Maharashtra in a gritty three-setter,winning 4-6 7-5 6-3. No 13 seed Sweta Shri Hari of Tamil Nadu, fell to Jasmine K Bajaj of Delhi 6-3 6-3.
