Robbers open fire at cops chasing them,constable hurt

Constable Tridev (21),who works with the CIA in Rewari,is admitted at the Columbia Asia Hospital in Palam Vihar and is said to be in a stable condition.

According to police,the CIA received a tip off that robbers who had looted Rs 4 crore a fortnight ago were on their way to meet someone in Palam Vihar.

The robbers,who were in a Santro car,were also being chased by a team of seven policemen,led by Sub-Inspector Om Prakash. When they reached the picket in Palam Vihar,they realised that they were being followed,police said.

In a bid to escape,the accused opened fire at the policemen,who retaliated with return fire,puncturing the Santro’s tyre.

In the crossfire,however,Constable Tridev was hit by a bullet that pierced through his shoulder and reached his elbow,police said.

The accused managed to escape,as the policemen focused their attention on rushing Constable Tridev to a hospital.

DCP (West) Abhay Rao said: “As a tyre of the Santro had burst,the robbers abandoned the car and escaped on foot. A police search party was sent,but by the time they had fled. Cases of firing at police and obstructing police work have been registered at the Palam Vihar police station.”

Rao and Superintendent of Police (Rewari) visited the constable in the hospital.

Police have identified the accused as Rajesh,who carries a reward of Rs 25,000,Kale and Jittu. A fourth accused is unidentified as yet.
