Till 11.15 am on Sunday,it was a regular day for Saleem,a rickshaw-puller in his mid-20s who works in the Old Delhi area. In fact, there were not many people around, and hence not much work.

That was till the two assailants fired at the Taiwanese tourists in front of him. Saleem was the only one who had seen the attackers, along with Delhi Police constable Pramod. The two,in fact, tried their best to stop the assailants from fleeing.

Clad in a checked shirt and a brown pant,Saleem,an illiterate, couldn’t identify the number-plate of the bike used by the attackers. “I could only identify what the pillion rider was wearing,” he said. Saleem, who was standing with his rickshaw opposite the Masjid, said the assailants arrived on a black bike. “The two were well-built. The pillion rider was carrying two guns. I saw them fire at the tourists and along with the sipahi chased the two with stones. But we missed the target.”

Pramod and Saleem are now being questioned by the police.
