Red Fort blast: Avoid ‘rumours, ‘maintain peace’, says Delhi CM as condolences pour in

After nine people were killed in a blast near Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening, Delhi Chief Rekha Gupta appealed to people to avoid “rumours” and “maintain peace”.

Describing the incident as “extremely distressing and alarming”, the CM said in a post on X, “I express my deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this tragic accident. I pray to God that the injured recover swiftly.”

Gupta added that a thorough investigation is being conducted by top investigating agencies. “Teams from the Delhi Police, NSG, NIA, and FSL are working together to conduct a thorough investigation into the entire matter.”

Appealing to the public, she added, “Please rely only on official information issued by the police and administration.”

On Monday night, the CM visited Lok Nayak hospital to meet the injured and their families. Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and Education Minister Ashish Sood also reached the hospital to meet the victims.

Sood, in a post on X, said, “The news of the explosion near Red Fort is extremely distressing and alarming. My deepest condolences go out to the citizens who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident. Under the guidance of Home Minister Amit Shah, the local administration is fully engaged in relief and security operations.”

PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh also called the incident “heartbreaking and distressing”.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said in a social media post, “… We all stand with the affected families during the difficult time. The administration is ensuring that all the injured receive necessary medical assistance immediately.”

AAP national convenor and former CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “Explosion near Red Fort is extremely alarming; negligence in Delhi’s security cannot be tolerated. Police and government must immediately investigate whether a larger conspiracy is behind this incident.”

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that “only Pakistan is capable of such a despicable act” while criticising the government for announcing a ceasefire during Operation Sindoor.

Leader of Opposition and Former CM Atishi demanded a thorough investigation.

Condolences pour in from leaders

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the car blast is “extremely painful and disturbing”. “At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured,” said Singh.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LOP) Rahul Gandhi said the news of the car explosion is “extremely heartbreaking and concerning”. “The report of the deaths of several innocent people in this tragic incident is profoundly sorrowful,” he said.

Congress President and Rajya Sabha LOP Mallikarjun Kharge expressed “distress” and said the government must “ensure a prompt and thorough investigation into this blast which has taken place in a high security and often crowded place”. “So that those responsible for this lapse and incident are held accountable,” he added.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she was shocked to hear about the tragic blast in New Delhi: “My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones and I pray for strength and a swift recovery for all those injured.”

TDP leader and general secretary Nara Lokesh said he was deeply disturbed by the news of a blast. “My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Requesting authorities to ensure the injured receive immediate care. I’m praying for calm and safety for those in the area,” he said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said the blast “is truly shocking”. “I pray for the injured and their quick recovery, along with a prayer for those who lost their lives in this terrible blast,” he said.

CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said he was “deeply shocked by the trail of death and destruction caused by the blast”. “We express our profound sympathies with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in this blast and hope for the swift recovery of the injured victims and safety of all concerned,” said Bhattacharya in a statement.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan strongly condemned the “heinous blast” and said that the “cowardly act is an attack on our nation and its people”. He urged the authorities to ensure those behind this heinous act are brought to justice without delay.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the news of the explosion “is both painful and deeply shocking”. “The state government is taking the Delhi blast incident very seriously. I have directed the Director General of Police to maintain high alertness across all district headquarters, including the state capital, Bengaluru…”

Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said the blast is an extremely tragic and serious incident and “should be investigated from every aspect”.

AIMIM president and MP Asaduddin Owaisi said he was “very disturbed by the news” of the blast. “… Those responsible for this condemnable act must receive the maximum punishment under the law.”
