Recapturing Hearts

The 1986-TV series Buniyaad returns to Doordarshan after 27 years. The period drama,that told the story of a family during Partition and its aftermath,drew out many iconic characters for an audience untouched by set-top boxes and pay channels. The plot revolves around a young Master Haveliram (Alok Nath) who falls in love and marries Lajwanti (Anita Kanwar),their family strife,separations and reunion. Written by journalist and author,Manohar Shyam Joshi,it was directed by Ramesh Sippy and Jyoti Sarup. Kiran Juneja as Veeravali,Haveliram’s sister,Dalip Tahil,as Bhushan,Haveliram’s elder son,and Vinod Nagpal as Shyamlal,a family friend,among others were memorable for their roles.

Buniyaad is being aired on Doordarshan every Thursday at 8.30 pm.
