The last few fashion weeks in the Capital were quite the snooze fests, and one waited for the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) to get the hint. At a press conference held at Taj Palace in the city on Thursday afternoon, it seemed they finally picked the clues. To be held from July15 to 20, the organisers promise a different experience this time around.
While the line-up has the same names of well-known couturiers — Manish Malhotra, Manish Arora, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Gaurav Gupta, Varun Bahl, Rina Dhaka, Monisha Jaising, Rohit Bal, Anju Modi, Rohit Bal and Anamika Khanna — the main change is in the name of the event. It has been rechristened India Couture Week and the “Delhi” tag has been dropped. “The fashion week represents designers from outside Delhi too, and it’s only fair to name it ‘India Couture Week’,” said Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI.
As usual, the designers were tight-lipped about their collections and when Bal was asked about his range, he responded with a visibly lost “I have no clue”. Sethi took this opportunity to announce that Modi has bagged her second movie -Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani — as a costume designer.
While we appreciate the minor changes that FDCI has brought about, a couple of new names in the line-up would have brightened our day.
