Starting today, buy a QR code-based ticket for your Delhi Metro ride

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday will launch its own app where riders can buy QR code-based tickets online.

The app will enable riders to buy tickets in the comfort of their own homes and avoid waiting in the queues to buy tokens at the Metro stations. According to official sources, passengers can download the app, register in it, buy the ticket and scan it at the gate directly from their phones. If the commuter’s phone is lost or dies within the duration of the ride, they will have to repurchase the ticket from the customer care kiosk.

The DMRC has been planning to phase out tokens ever since the pandemic struck. The Metro authority had initially introduced paper QR code tickets and then the WhatsApp-based ticketing service for the Airport Express Line (AEL). Passengers could also buy tickets for the AEL through the Ridlr app.

With all stations now equipped with QR code-compatible gates, the DMRC is now ready to expand the mobile-based tickets system across the Metro network.
