In a private member bill,Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya moved a proposal to protect the buildings, roads and areas, which are yet to be notified by the Delhi and Central governments, from demolition and sealing.

Arya has argued that many lower-middle class people have started small shops in their houses. Such units were marked as misuse of area and people feared demolition and sealing from the civic authorities. Later, the government, under its Master Plan-2021,decided to notify 2,183 roads where the houses could be spared from demolition and sealing drive.

“We,in a survey, found out that there are 351 more roads, which should also be notified under mixed land use where people can run small commercial activity in residential premises. We have approved these roads for mixed land use and sent the approval of these roads to Delhi government for getting them notified by the Central government. There has been no progress on it till now,” said Arya.

He also registered his concern on the areas which have been termed as Special Area Zones — Karol Bagh Zone,Sadar Paharganj Road and the Walled City. “DDA has prepared a special area norms but due to lack of coordination between various agencies, the norms could not be implemented. As a results, these special areas too can be demolished or face sealing drive,” he said. He also recommended increasing the FAR of residential units in Lal Dora area from 350 to 400.
