Though the Commonwealth Games is just a little more than a month away, crime continues to remain a major concern in the city. One such crime, which the police have not been able to put a stop to,is the disappearance of children.
As many as 204 children went missing in August in Delhi and nearby states alone, averaging almost eight disappearances in a day. A whopping majority of these cases about 166 occurred in the Capital itself.
The years count of missing children touched 1,764 till August 29,the police said, adding that they have redoubled their efforts in this regard after the High Court maintained that the disappearance of children below 16 years of age should be taken seriously.
Though the Delhi police increased their strength significantly over the last few years and initiated programmes such as eyes and ears scheme to share information on criminals, there still seems to be no cap on children going missing.
