As renowned Spanish pianist Ignacio Plaza played live while the 1925 silent movie,La casa de la Troya (The House of Troy) was being screened,it added a new dimension to the age-old concept of mute cinema. On Friday,Plaza, along with two other musicians, played to a packed audience in the Capital. The three musicians from different cultural backgrounds Spain,Syria and India were part of the film and live music concert titled The House of Troy, held at Instituto Cervantes. While Plaza, who has periodically been involved with mute cinema, played the piano,Suchet Malhotra played drums from his diverse collection of native instruments from around the world. On the other hand,Salman Mubarak from Syria played the bass to bring in a touch of contemporary Arabic music. The 162-minute romantic comedy with English subtitles is about a young boy who is sent from Madrid to the University of Santiago de Compestela by his father for studies. It is here that he falls in love with a girl called Carmina Castro but later, their love story faces a series of hurdles. Jesus Clavero Rodriguez, cultural manager at Instituto Cervantes, said,The aim of the concert was to bring together the past and the present, and the idea was to approach different age groups. The silent movie, which was shot in the 20th century, has been given a new touch by these contemporary musicians.
