Partying Shot

At the Bahama Consulate last weekend, bottles of beer lay stashed on a shiny marble counter, while two women in tight pencil skirts came back disparaged because nobody was willing to accept the cigars they were promoting. “ Athletes don’t smoke,” said Valentino Knowles,a boxer from team Bahama. The athletes and delegates had gathered for a cosy private party on the terrace of the Consulate hosted by Consul General Ashish Saraf. At the do,Knowles was in high spirit. “India can take home any gold medal except the 64 kilos and 69 kilos. I’m walking with faith,” he smiled. The party was a low-key affair, until three long-legged foreign models walked in. Domenique Graff,a German model, working in India, dragged the chef de mission,Roy Colebrook,to the dance floor,as reggae beats pulsed through the air. Spotted at the party was Indian shooter Reena Rana.

Competitive sports might be tough business, but the delegates at the CWG are not shying away from having a good time post the day’s events. So,the lavish party hosted by High Commissioner to Uganda Nimisha Madhvani at the Hyatt Hotel over the weekend was a packed affair. The team members though seemed disgruntled over the freak accident that had injured their Chef de Mission at the Games village. “The mood has been severely dampened,” explained James Sekajugo, the team’s doctor. For much of the evening they discussed the accident with the General Secretary (for sport),Peninnah Kabenge, and the row that it has sparked off between them and the CWG Organizing Committee. The OC members though were busy partying away the same night at Shiro, the new night club at Hotel Samrat.
