If the popularity of his TV show Comedy Nights With Kapil wasn’t enough to prove his celebrity status, then Kapil Sharma will surely prove his worth with this one. Sharma has signed a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films (YRF).

The TV host will be seen playing the lead role in Bank-Chor, a YRF film about three people whose plan to rob a bank goes horribly wrong. They pick the worst day possible to carry out their heist and end up getting caught in the web of cops, politicians and industrialists. The film will be directed by Bumpy and will be produced by Ashish Raj. It goes on floors this April. Sharma is also part of the YRF Talent Management Wing that handles celebrity endorsements.

The deal is part of the Youth Films Division of the Yash Raj banner, called Y-Films, which made last year’s hit film Mere Dad ki Maruti directed by Ashima Chibber. “The script is the most exciting part since it’s the kind of role that’s very unlike the stereotype of a comedian. As an actor it’s challenging and I’ve already started working on the nuances of the character. I did theatre for years before comedy. Now, I’ll get to do this again after a 12-year break,” says Sharma.
