A 21-year-old man who was admitted to a private hospital with gunshot injuries in Noida’s Sector-50 on Thursday alleged that he was robbed by some people who also forced him to shoot himself. The man added that the attackers then threatened to shoot his mother if he revealed the matter to anyone. The police, however, said that the investigation indicated that his claims were false.

Identifying the man as Himanshu, a resident of Salarpur, Noida, officers said they also recovered the pistol in question and probe revealed that the weapon belonged to him.

In a statement, the police said, “Himanshu had told us that some people had followed him from home and they had a pistol. He changed the statements several times, which seemed suspicious. His friend Vivek, who had admitted Himanshu to the hospital, was questioned, and he said that Himanshu had called him and informed about the shooting. When the police visited the spot, prima facie, no such incident was found to have happened there.”

They further said, “On checking Himanshu’s phone, it was found that he had a photo of an illegal 32 mm pistol. On the basis of his statement, the police recovered the pistol about one kilometre away from the spot.”

Officers said the pistol belonged to Himanshu and he had clicked a photo with it on June 4. Further probe is on to determine what happened, and action will be taken accordingly, they added.
