To ease traffic on Shanti Path near Moti Bagh,the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Friday inaugurated an underpass that will enable free movement of vehicles as well as allow safe passage to pedestrians from the Safdarjung railway station to North Moti Bagh. Commuters from the Ring Road or Rao Tula Ram Marg can also use this underpass to reach the Safdarjung railway station directly without having to take a long detour and then a U-turn on Shanti Path.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated the underpass as well as two electric sub-stations at Raja Bazar,Gole Market and Dr Bhishambar Dass Marg. NDMC Chairman Parimal Rai,Vice-Chairperson Tajdar Babar,MLA and Member of NDMC Karan Singh Tanwar and other members and senior officers of the NDMC were present on the occasion.
The underpass has been constructed by the civic body at a cost of Rs 12.33 crore in the span of a year. The 33-KV and 66-KV sub-stations at Raja Bazar and Dr Bishambar Dass Marg are part of the electric system strengthening and upgrade work being carried out by the NDMC. M/s PGCIL was the turnkey consultant for the project,which has been executed by L&T. Both sub-stations were completed in 18 months time. The cost of the Raja Bazar sub-station is Rs 10.11 crore,while the Dr Bishambar Dass Marg sub-station was built at a cost of Rs 16.75 crore. Dedicated rainwater harvesting systems have been installed at both sub-stations.
The sub-stations will strengthen the electricity supply to the adjoining areas,including Pt Pant Marg,Dr Bishambar Dass Marg,Mahadeva Road,Gole Dakkhana,BKS Marg and Gole Market.
