Murder in Jangpura: Elderly doctor tied up, strangled to death by thieves inside home
DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo said they received a PCR call at 6.50 pm regarding the murder.

It was a quiet Friday afternoon at C-14 in Jangpura Extension’s C Block. Most residents were still at work. Using this to their advantage, four men broke into a house on the upper ground-floor where Dr Yogesh Chander Paul lived with his wife. There, they proceeded to allegedly assault the 63-year-old general physician, tie him up, and strangle him to death. They then ransacked the house and locked up his two dogs in the toilet.
It was Dr Paul’s wife, Neena, who discovered the body on returning home at 6.30 pm.
DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo said they received a PCR call at 6.50 pm regarding the murder. Dr Paul had been practising for around 40 years. His wife too is a doctor at a Delhi government hospital. The couple has two daughters, both married.
Said the DCP, “The body was found in the kitchen. A forensic team along with a dog squad was called to the spot.” He said there were signs of a robbery as the rooms were ransacked. Prima facie, it appears that the accused persons ransacked the house and then killed Dr Paul.
A senior officer, requesting anonymity, said, “His hands and feet were tied with rope… he was on the floor… his neck bore strangulation marks… there were also signs of assault on his face.”
He added that a CCTV camera outside the building showed four persons entering the house at 1.30 pm. By then, Dr Paul had returned from his clinic — a 10-minute walk from the house.
“He used to leave for his clinic at 10 am and come home for lunch at 1 pm. He would then return to the clinic at 5 pm and come back around 10 pm,” said a neighbour.
An officer said, “The couple had two dogs but both were locked inside the washroom by the accused men… no one in the building seems to have heard any commotion as most were out for work.”
The amount of money and valuables ransacked is yet to be accounted for, said officers. Another officer said, “It appears that the accused persons carried out a recce of the house and might have come posing as patients as Dr Paul used to consult at his house too.”
Monty, who works as a help at a house opposite Dr Paul’s, said, “I last saw him around 1 pm when he was returning from his clinic…”
Kapil Kakkar, President of Jangpura Extension RWA, told The Indian Express, “Dr Paul was a jovial person and we even awarded him the society ‘best resident of the year’ award recently… he was born and brought up here and had been treating patients ever since I can remember… he was quite famous as a doctor in the nearby areas.”
An officer said CCTV footage is being scanned further to track the route taken by the accused. Several teams of the Southeast district’s special staff and Hazrat Nizamuddin police station have been deployed to nab the men.
