Mughlai from Kolkata

The last one year has seen Mumbai’s food scene grow exponentially. With international franchises such as Le Pain Quotidien, fine dining hubs like The Table and Michelin Star restaurants like Hakassan setting shop in Mumbai, one can barely complain about missing their favourite international flavours. However, for those looking to get their fill of Mughlai food, the options are quite limited.

That will be taken care of to some extent now, with the entry of Arsalan. It is a Kolkata-based mid-range chain of Mughlai food that’s popular for its mutton biryani, kebabs and rolls. With a seating capacity of 80 people — indoors and on a deck outside — the restaurant, with its high ceiling, white walls and open kebab kitchen,is simple, but elegant. Set on the ground floor of Sapphire Building on SV Road,Khar, the restaurant launched on Wednesday in an endearingly old-fashioned way— a ribbon cutting followed by cake.

“I don’t know how I did it,but I’m so excited that we’re finally here,” said Akhtar Parwez, the owner of the franchise. “I have visited Mumbai so many times with my family and never found a good Mughlai place.

Arsalan is 100 per cent authentic in its offerings and I hope that the people in the city love our food.”
