Model code of conduct in place, illicit liquor linked to MCD bypoll candidate’s kin seized

A vehicle containing a large consignment of illicit liquor was intercepted and seized in Okhla, police said on Tuesday. More than 100 bottles of Royal Stag whisky, which were labeled “For Sale in Haryana Only” were recovered.

According to the police, the accused disclosed that he is the brother-in-law of Anuj Sharma–a MCD bypoll candidate contesting in Ward No 163, Sangam Vihar for the AAP party. Police verification revealed that the intercepted vehicle is registered in the name of AAP leader Jyoti Kohli, a sitting ward councillor from Ward 162 Tigri.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Pul Prahladpur police station. Investigation is underway to determine the intended purpose of the liquor consignment.
