The Noida police today arrested an engineer working with a multinational company for grievously injuring a traffic police constable in a hit-and-run accident early this morning.

Police sources said Pradeep Jaggi,a resident of Paschim Vihar in the Capital,was arrested this morning for allegedly hitting and injuring constable Rakesh Kumar with his Honda City near Rajnigandha Chowk.

“Jaggi did not stop his car even after Kumar waved at him to stop. Instead,he dragged the policeman for at least 20 to 30 metres,before fleeing,” Station House Officer of Sector 20 P K Shukla said. “A message was immediately flashed on the wireless. After a brief chase,Jaggi was intercepted and detained near DPS Sector 30 by the police,” the SHO said.

The police said the accident happened during the morning rush hour around 9 am. With the signals switched off,traffic police personnel were manning the traffic.

Jaggi was on the way to his office in Noida Sector-63 via the DND Expressway. “Jaggi was driving the car at a high speed and could not control the vehicle,” the SHO said.

The accused works in a multinational firm that deals in electronic parts.

Rakesh Kumar suffered multiple injuries and was admitted to Kailash Hospital in the city,where his condition is stated to be stable. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the accused.
