Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line faced major disruptions on Monday morning and afternoon after a signalling issue at the Millennium City Centre Gurugram station caused trains to slow down, leaving commuters stranded and triggering heavy crowding at several stations.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the issue affected the reversal of trains from Gurgaon towards Samaypur Badli, leading to delays on the short stretch between Sultanpur and Millennium City Centre.

“Due to signaling issue at terminal station of Millennium City Centre Gurugram on Yellow Line, the reversal of trains for onward service towards Samaypur Badli is taking little extra time there. As a result, train services are running slightly delayed in a short section from Sultanpur to Millennium City Centre,” DMRC posted on its X handle.

Passengers, however, reported wider disruptions. “Stuck for many minutes now at Sultanpur Station,” one commuter wrote on X, while another said, “Train is stuck at Udyog Bhawan metro station for the past ten minutes. The services on the entire line from Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre has been affected because of the domino effect.”

At Sikanderpur station, commuters also complained of confusion after announcements about platforms for trains towards Gurgaon were changed within minutes. “Such confusion can cause chaos. Who will take responsibility if any accident takes place?” a passenger wrote, while posting a video claimed to be shot at 12.37 pm showing a massive crowd waiting to board the Metro.

On the platform, a horde of people stood shoulder to shoulder, struggling to find a place. “Kya ho raha bhai. Confuse kardiye hain ye log toh (what is happening, they are confusing us,” said a commuter.

At platform 2, a train finally arrived, and several people pushed and shoved each other, trying to force their way onto an already overflowing compartment. An old, lanky man barely made it inside as the gates closed behind him — thanks to his wife, who pushed him inside with force.

By around 1 pm, DMRC said normal services had resumed on the Yellow Line.

This is the second such snag to hit the line in a week.

Last Friday, peak-hour services were disrupted, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded and frustrated.

“Train services on a section of the Yellow Line had to be regulated today due to a signalling issue between the New Delhi and Patel Chowk stations from 7:25 am till about 12 noon,” a DMRC spokesperson had said.

“As a result, trains had to be operated at a restricted speed (25 kmph) on the stretch between Kashmere Gate and Patel Chowk, even as normal train services continued on the rest of the Yellow Line, though some bunching of trains was noticed on the entire Yellow Line,” the spokesperson had added.

The line is one of Delhi Metro’s busiest corridors, connecting Delhi University, Central Secretariat, INA, AIIMS, and Gurugram. It carries lakhs of passengers daily.
