MCD proposes amendment in abattoir contract

The MCD has prepared a proposal for amendment in the contract concerning running of operations at the Ghazipur abattoir.

The MCD has prepared a proposal for amendment in the contract concerning running of operations at the Ghazipur abattoir. The amendment is meant to exclude the clause, which states that the contractor is liable to make roads leading to the slaughterhouse.

Two years ago,a company was given charge to run and earn from the slaughterhouse. In the contract,it was mentioned that the company will build three roads leading to slaughterhouse. “The company has requested MCD to do away with the clause. They have said that the road is not used exclusively by those visiting the slaughterhouse,” said an official.

The Commissioner of MCD has, meanwhile, proposed that a new slaughterhouse should be built, keeping in mind the growing needs of city. The Commissioner said the Ghazipur slaughterhouse works in two shifts and only 5,000 animals are slaughtered in one day.

“MCD earns Rs 45 lakh per month from this slaughterhouse. There is need for another slaughterhouse in Delhi considering the growing demand for meat,” the proposal said.
