It was an exciting encounter as the two top teams of the country,Jindal’s Elevation and Equisport’s Rissala, battled for the oldest polo trophy in the country — the Indian Open Polo Championship at the Jaipur polo grounds on Sunday. While the polo crowd braced itself for an exciting afternoon, the players turned the final into a real grudge match. What began with the clashing of mallets saw two tumbles resulting in interruptions and an edgy audience. While Rissala’s young player Samir Suhag took a nasty bump,India’s top player with the highest handicap,Shamsheer Ali of Elevation, fell at the far end of the muddy field. Nonetheless, the play continued even in fading light as the spectators, including MP Yashodhara Raje Scindia,Delhi Art Gallery owner Ashish Anand and designer Sanjana Jon,cheered from the stands. To break the 10-goal equaliser, the match continued to the sudden death chukker where the Jindal team scored the golden goal.
