Man, son stabbed after parking row

Police showed the footage to shopkeepers and locals in the area to ascertain the identity of the assailants.

Police on Saturday arrested six men for allegedly stabbing and assaulting a man and his son after a tiff over parking.

According to police, the incident was reported from Mansarover Building in Nehru Place, Southeast Delhi, on December 8. Shakil, a shopkeeper, and his son Faijan had asked the accused not to park their bikes outside their shop. This led to an argument and eventually the assault, police said.

Police said four of the accused have been identified as Deepak (20), Raj Kumar (21) Rajesh Ray (20), Dinesh Soni (20). The other two are teenagers, police said.

Police said Shakil, who owns a kabari shop in Nehru Place, requested the accused not to park their bikes outside his shop. This led to an argument between the two parties.

“The men got angry and an altercation began. It was followed by a scuffle. When Faijan intervened. the six threatened Shakil and his son and left,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said.

Two hours later, police said, two of the accused returned to Nehru Place with their associates. They went to Shakil’s shop, dragged him out and started beating him. When Faizan tried to intervene, he too was punched, police said.

The accused, who were carrying knives, allegedly stabbed the duo and fled, police said.

“Shakil and Faijan sustained severe injuries and were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre. A case of attempted murder-cum-riot was registered in Kalkaji and an investigation is on,” Randhawa said.

During investigation, police questioned several people and accessed CCTV footage from cameras installed at Nehru Place Complex. Police said the footage shows the men entering and leaving the complex.

Police showed the footage to several shopkeepers and locals in the area to ascertain the identity of the assailants.

“With the help of locals, we zeroed in on one of the accused and arrested him. On his instance, the others were taken into custody,” Randhawa said.
