Man held for theft at Hari Nagar church

Police had deployed 20 teams to question over 100 suspects.

Delhi Police on Thursday claimed to have cracked the case of theft at a church in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar area last week with the arrest of a 42-year-old man.

Police said the man, identified as Harvinder Singh Suri (alias Sunny), had committed the theft in St Kuriakose Elias Chavara Church in Anand Vihar on the intervening night of May 22 and 23.

According to police, Suri allegedly broke open the lock of the donation box kept at the foot of the Mother Mary statue and pocketed the money in it. The incident was captured on CCTV camera installed on the church premises, police said.

Police had deployed 20 teams to question over 100 suspects. “Suri, an alcoholic, conducted a recee of the church premises and decided to target the donation box located outside the church building and therefore least risky,” DCP (West) Pushpendra Kumar said.
