“He started abusing the economy class crew. So, we informed PIC and gave him an oral warning, but after lunch services, we got the LAV (lavatory) smoke alarm... he (was) caught with a cigarette lighter...he pushed me back… ran to his seat… and I tried to stop him... he again pushed and abused me... He broke LAV door,” read the FIR lodged on complaint of a crew member. The Delhi Police booked a man for allegedly abusing flight crew members, smoking and breaking the lavatory door on an Air India flight from Toronto to Delhi.
Police said he allegedly changed his seat and hurled abuses at staffers. “He started abusing the economy class crew. So, we informed PIC and gave him an oral warning, but after lunch services, we got the LAV (lavatory) smoke alarm… he (was) caught with a cigarette lighter…he pushed me back… ran to his seat… and I tried to stop him… he again pushed and abused me… He broke LAV door,” read the FIR lodged on complaint of a crew member.
A statement by the airlines said, “A passenger on flight AI188 … displayed unacceptable aggression… He smoked in lavatory, damaged lavatory door and assaulted crew and passengers, leaving them with minor injuries.”
“We tried to restrain him as per SOP but were not able to control him…We got ten passengers and two crew who… restrained him… he (accused) tried to beat a passenger,” read the FIR. On arrival, he was handed over to security, and the matter has been reported to Directorate General of Civil Aviation, said an official.
A case was registered at IGI Airport police station.
